Összefoglaló:
A tanulmány Veszprém dualizmuskori városi fejlődését foglalja össze. A bevezetés után betekintést nyújt a városiasodás folyamatának meghatározó tényezőbe. Ismerteti Veszprém 19. századi helyzetét, társadalmi, gazdasági jellemzőit, oktatásban betöltött szerepét. A továbbiakban röviden kitér a fontosabb korabeli építkezésekre (pl. a zsinagóga) és átépítésekre (pl. a Tűztorony). Említésre kerülnek a millennium évében végbemenő városfejlesztési munkálatok és annak előzményei egy korabeli újságcikk alapján. Megvizsgálja azt a kérdést, hogy a vasúti hálózat kiépítése hogyan befolyolta a város fejlődését. A város fejlődésének vizsgálata során elkerülhetetlen a társadalom és a népességi adatok vizsgálata. Végezetül pedig egy, a polgárosodás kezdetén élt borbélymester történetének összefoglalása alapján kaphatunk képet a város és a kor társadalmi problémáiról, fejlődésének menetéről.

Abstract:
The study summarizes the urban development of Veszprém during the dualism period. After the introduction, it provides an insight into the determinating factors of the process of urbanization. It describes the city of Veszprém’s situation in the 19. century, its social and economic characteristics, and role of education. The most important constructions and reconstructions of the age, such as the synagogue and the Fire Tower, are presented below. Mention is made of the presentation of urban development work in the millennium and its antecedents based on a contemporary newspaper article. The relationship between the settlement and the railway network and its influence on the development of the city will be examined. Examining the development of a city, it is also inevitable to investigate social and population data. Finally, based on a summary of a barber who lived at the beginning of the era, we can get an idea of the social problems of the city and its development.
