A tanulmány betekintést nyújt Székesfehérvár legfiatalabb városrészeinek, a Vízivárosnak és az egykor Tóvárosnak nevezett területek keleti- délkeleti irányú kialakulásának és terjeszkedésének történetébe. Egyegy kulcsfontosságúnak ítélt intézmény és üzem fejlődésének, valamint meghatározó ipari fejlesztéseknek az ismertetésén keresztül utal azok városképalakító hatására. Beszámol az 1879. évi országos kiállítás szervezése és lebonyolítása körüli eseményekről; a kiállításról, amely szintén jelentős mértékben hozzájárult az érintett területek fejlődéséhez, s a korszakban országos ismertséget és elismertséget szerzett Székesfehérvár városának. Bemutatja, hogy a 19–20. század elejére jellemző dinamikus fejlődésnek a második világháború harci eseményei vetettek véget. Ezt követően a város vezetése a tömeges lakásépítést helyezte a középpontba, így pár évtized alatt a terület a gombamód szaporodó lakótelepeknek köszönhetően elveszítette korábbi arculatát.

Abstract:
The study provides insight into the history of the development and expansion in an easterly-southeasterly direction of the youngest town sections of Székesfehérvár, the territory of Víziváros and the area once known as Tóváros. By reviewing the development of certain institutions and factories, deemed to be of key importance, as well as key industrial developments, it points to their cityscape-forming effects. The study reports on the events surrounding the organisation and staging of the national exhibition of 1879; on the exhibition, which likewise contributed to a significant extent to the development of the areas in question, and acquired national visibility and recognition for the city of Székesfehérvár in the period. It demonstrates how the events of World War II put an end to the dynamic developments characteristic of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Following this, the city management focused on mass housing construction, thus in a number of decades the area had lost its former look due to the mushrooming housing estates.
