A Dardania provinciából származó, katolikus keresztény vallású Marcellinus comes Iustinianus császár (527–565) cancellariusa és a 6. század elejének egyik legjelentősebb történetírója volt. Az udvari szerző latin nyelvű Krónikája (Chronicon) Hieronymus (Szent Jeromos) 379-ig eljutó krónikakompozíciójának az 534-ig megírt folytatása, amelyet egy ismeretlen auctor később egészen 548-ig kibővített. A mű a konstantinápolyi hippodromban zajló eseményeknek, illetve a két cirkuszi párt, a kék és a zöld factio lázongásainak is fontos, megkerülhetetlen írott forrása. A publikáció ezeknek a szöveghelyeknek a fordítására és kommentálására
vállalkozik.

Abstract:
Count Marcellinus, a Catholic Christian statesman from the province of Dardania was the cancellarius of Emperor Iustinian (527–565 AD) and one of the most important historians of early 6th century AD. As a court official, he wrote a Latin chronicle (Chronicon), which is the continuation of Hieronymus’ (St. Jerome’s) historical opus and covers the period from 379 to 534 AD. Additionally, Marcellinus’ summary was later extended until 548 AD by an unknown author. The work is an important, unavoidable source in connection with the events at the Constantinopolitan hippodrome and in connection with the rebellions of the two circus parties, the blue and green factions. In my paper, I translate and comment these passages of the chronicle.
