Összefoglaló:

A 20. század első felében a katolikus egyház jelentős földbirtokterülettel rendelkezett Magyarországon.

Abstract:

In the first part of the 20th century the Catholic Church owned a significant number of estates in Hungary. The primary goal of the above mentioned estates, and the resulting incomes is to maintain and finance the system of the church institutions. The history of the church (large) estate – which was steadily present in Hungarian history and law – can be tracked from the age of St. Stephen till 1945. The problem of donation, i.e. who and how can donate, who has the right to decide on the person of the beneficiary, is a topic of a century old debate. In my current study I examine the change of the above mentioned estate in the 20th century, in particular from the changes in 1848 till the secularization in 1945. I study how and with which attempts did the clergymen try to make the often loss-making estates profitable, and what was the role of the state in this process.
