A 19. században Dunántúlon a „cifraszűr” viselése és készítésének mestersége – melynek „fővárosa” Veszprém volt – már nagyon régi idő óta virágzott. Ez a gazdagon díszített vastag gyapjú felöltő, amelyet parasztok, de mindenekelőtt pásztorok viseltek, használójának a mindene volt: derékalja, párnája, valamint oltalma a hideg, a szél, az eső, és árnyéka a nap heve ellen. A korabeli hatalom elítélte a köznép körében kibontakozó „luxust”, félve attól, hogy megrontja erkölcseiket. Rendeleteket hoztak a magyar cifraszűr eltiltására, mert azt gondolták, hogy a cifraszűr megkívánása még lopásra, rablásra is ráviszi majd a legényeket – amire volt is példa. A tiltásnak, a rendeleteknek nagy foganatja nem volt, a mesterség és a jellegzetesen magyar ruhadarab készítése, a vele való kereskedés töretlenül virágzott. A publikációban a különböző dunántúli megyék által kiadott tiltó rendeleteket mutatom be, röviden ismertetve az azokra adott reakciókat is.

Abstract:
In the XIX. century in Transdanubia, the art of wearing and making the “cifraszűr” flourished for a very long time. The centre of craftsmen was located in Veszprém. The “cifraszűr” is a thick woollen overcoat richly decorated with embroidery, worn by Hungarian peasants and shepherds. For its user, this coat had everything: a waistband, a pillow, and protection from the cold, wind, rain, and shade against the heat of the sun. The then ruling class condemned “luxury” unfolding among the common people for fear of spoiling their morals. For this reason, decrees were made to ban using this coat because the leaders thought that requiring a “cifraszűr” would even lead the lads to steal and robbery – which happened from time to time. These decrees had little effect, and the craft and the trade of this typically Hungarian garment flourished unbroken. In this publication, I present the prohibition decrees issued by the various Transdanubian counties, briefly describing the reactions to them.
